Chief Vitalstatistix rashly invites his brother-in-law to dine on a stew seasoned with Caesar’s laurel wreath, so Asterix and Obelix must go to Rome to fetch those laurels.
Hoping to get access to Caesar, they sell themselves as slaves – but can they do a deal with the corrupt Goldendelicius to sawap the laurels for parsley? If so, it will be their own Roman triumph!
What the druids have to say about the album
Caesar inadvertently takes part in a bet laid by our unruly Gauls. «Zigackly».
In their own way the authors are showing their fondness of Caesar. He had greatly inspired René Goscinny through his book The Gallic War, and Albert Uderzo had refused to caricature him. Moreover, he said «Caesar really marked history, while his heir, Augustus, gave his name to a clown»! (In French Augustus is ‘Auguste’, the name given to a type of clown).
