When the hero Vercingetorix was defeated he threw his arms at Julius Caesar’s feet.
Years later, Caesar plans to hold a triumph with his enemy’s shield – but where is it? Romans and Gauls race to track it down, and Chief Vitalstatistix, dieting on a health farm, has a surprise to spring. Will Caesar defeat the Gauls again, or will the triumph go to Asterix?
It’s now the turn of spas and health farms to get the Goscinny-Uderzo treatment. Re-reading the pages on Vitalstatistix’s cure is always a pleasure, and Obelix looking at the grape is unforgettable!
While the spirit of resistance shown by Asterix and his comrades no longer needs proving, it is particularly prominent here, with the Gauls going all out to lay claim to the shield of their chief Vercingetorix, from under Caesar’s nose.
Our heroes continue to thumb their own noses at their opponents, as Asterix albums are now being translated into Latin. This album gets the title Clipeus Arvernus.
